Community sport is so much more than just the competition — it is a community, and thriving communities need people who show up, year after year, doing the work that nobody sees. For seven years, Arv Sampath has been that person for Marrickville Cricket Club. As President, Arv has quietly and selflessly carried the enormous invisible labour that keeps a club of this size running; leading committee meetings, wrangling senior and junior teams, managing enthusiastic coaches, coordinating Cricket Blast, end-of-year trophies, awards nights and liaising with Council. He has done it all with grace, warmth and irrepressible good humour. But at the heart of everything Arv has done, is a simple, powerful commitment — keeping as many people as possible playing the amazing game of cricket. Countless families have shared the sideline, had their children coached or umpired by him, or scored alongside him, and are the richer for it.
