Congratulations to ACON as you celebrate 40 years of courage, compassion and community care. Established in August 1985 during the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis, ACON began with volunteers who were fighting for their lives and the lives of their friends. Born from crisis and driven by resilience, they created an organisation that provided care, support and dignity when it was needed most. Four decades later, ACON has evolved into NSW's leading LGBTQ+ health organisation, delivering whole-of-health programs covering everything from HIV prevention and sexual health to mental health, cancer screening, ageing and inclusion. Throughout August to October, ACON is celebrating with a packed program of events – from the spectacular community launch at Sydney Town Hall to photography exhibitions and performances across Sydney and regional NSW. It was a joy to celebrate with so many supporters at the Ruby Gala Dinner on Saturday 18 October to honour those who came before us, acknowledge the incredible progress since the 1980s and recommit to creating healthier lives for LGBTQ+ communities. Congratulations to President Justin Koonan, CEO Michael Woodhouse and everyone who has been part of this remarkable journey over 40 years.
