Wilkins Public School has recently unveiled a beautiful First Nations mural, a testament to our community's commitment to truth-telling and reconciliation. This stunning collaborative artwork honours the traditional custodians of our land - the Wangal, Kameygal, and Bediagal clans of the Eora Nation. Created through a partnership between First Nations students, Uncle Anthony, and talented local First Nations artist Taryn Little, this mural replaces a 20-year-old NAIDOC mural with fresh, vibrant storytelling. The mural is a daily reminder to our students about the rich indigenous heritage of our area and the ongoing connection between First Nations peoples and country. Every day, hundreds of young minds will walk past this mural and learn about the world's oldest continuous culture right here in their own schoolyard. This initiative demonstrates Wilkins Public School's dedication to embedding Aboriginal perspectives into education and creating an inclusive environment where all cultures are celebrated and respected. This beautiful mural shows what happens when community comes together - and art and heart is exactly what my community does best! Congratulations to Principal Sarah Jones, artist Taryn Little, Uncle Anthony and all the students involved in this project.
