The Marrickville community mourns the passing of Murray Sinclair, a long-term resident, valued member of the Marrickville Heritage Society and a man of remarkable creative talent. Murray was a highly regarded French polisher by trade, lending his skilled hands to the restoration and preservation of several heritage buildings, including houses and churches. His deep appreciation for the built environment extended beyond his work. Murray studied art at the National Art School and found particular joy in painting the buildings and streetscapes he loved so well. Such was the quiet dedication he brought to his art that, after his passing, more than 100 paintings were discovered in his Sydenham home, a testament to a lifetime of creative passion. In celebration of his life and legacy, friends organised a retrospective exhibition of Murray's work at Studio 551, King Street, Newtown. The exhibition ran from 1-3 May, with many attending to enjoy Murray's talents and celebrate his rich life. Vale Murray Sinclair — a craftsman and an artist. He will be deeply missed.
