Sydenham Road is one of the Inner West’s busiest local connections, used every day by thousands of people walking, riding and commuting to and from Sydenham Station.

As the area continues to grow, the Minns Labor Government and Inner West Council are delivering upgrades to make the corridor safer, greener and easier to get around.

Supported through $10 million in grants from the NSW Government, the works will improve pedestrian access and safety while creating a more attractive and welcoming streetscape for the local community and businesses.

The work includes:
- Intersection upgrades at Marrickville Road and Buckley Street and Sydenham Road and Buckley Street to prioritise pedestrians.
- Introducing timed parking spaces to improve access for businesses.
- A speed zone reduction to 40km/h on Sydenham Road, Railway Parade and Gleeson Street.
- Kerb build-outs, additional tree planting and landscaping, new street furniture.
- New signage and line-marking.
- Footpath improvements.
Construction is expected to commence later this year, subject to final design and procurement.
