I recently had the opportunity to meet the team from PlasmaLeap Technologies, a Marrickville-based company that's revolutionising agriculture and clean energy on the global stage. Founded in 2019, PlasmaLeap has developed groundbreaking zero-emissions chemical reactors that produce green ammonia using only renewable electricity, air and water. This innovation replaces the current process, which accounts for approximately two percent of global carbon emissions. The technology could save Australian farmers 10% on fertiliser costs annually – potentially $400 million nationally. Farmers can produce nitrogen fertiliser directly on their farms using green energy sources, eliminating the reliance on imported fertilisers. PlasmaLeap has been selected as one of just 20 companies worldwide for PETRONAS FutureTech accelerator and received recognition in the Global Innovators 100 for Clean Energy & Climate Tech. This is exactly the kind of innovation our Inner West breeds – world-leading technology developed right here in Marrickville, creating jobs, advancing sustainability, and putting us at the forefront of the global green energy transition. Congratulations to Founder and CEO Frere Byrne and the entire PlasmaLeap team on this remarkable achievement!
