I acknowledge the many Inner West students who participated in the online Schools Strike 4 Climate on Friday 15 October. The COVID-19 outbreak and lockdown has not dampened the passion and commitment of young people across Australia and the world for urgent and meaningful action on climate change. This year's Strike comes in the wake of the damning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change [IPCC] Report and with the United Nations COP26 climate conference scheduled for November in Glasgow. The IPCC has warned that temperatures are set to exceed 2°C in the 21st century. It is clear that countries, including Australia, must make significant cuts to greenhouse emissions if we are to limit temperature rise to 1.5°C. I note comments that while Paris made promises, Glasgow must deliver action. Students participating in the Schools Strike 4 Climate continue to show leadership and principle and I warmly congratulate and thank students from the Inner West who participated in last week's actions.
