I wish to recognise the sudden and unexpected passing of Mr David Searle, a much-loved teacher at Marrickville High School. David was a respected and valued colleague to staff across the school. He was a passionate educator and advocate of public education for the past 34 years. David's dedication and selflessness to his students was evident until the very end, when he was providing work and feedback to his students from his hospital bed. His leadership with the school especially in the English/History/Drama/LOTE faculty is a great loss to his colleagues and the whole school. A great teacher is more than just someone who imparts knowledge; a great teacher is an educator, mentor and guide who will leave a lasting impression on their students. David embodied this for his students. I extend my deepest condolences to David's husband, family, many friends and the Marrickville High School community. Vale David Searle and thank you for your many years of dedicated selfless service to public education and your dedication to your students.
