EIGHTEEN inner west community groups have shared in $330,000 in grants as part of this years Summer Hill Community Building Partnership program.

Jo Haylen MP, Member for Summer Hill, announced the recipients this week, congratulating the successful groups and thanking the thousands of local residents who took part in her community grants survey.

2018 was a particularly competitive year, with over 40 groups in the inner west applying. Each NSW State electorate is allocated $330,000 in funding.

Reverse Garbage in Marrickville received the largest single grant, with $35,000 going towards funding an education vehicle to increase lessons in schools around waste reduction and re-use. Other projects include repairing a public pathway through the grounds of St John’s Church in Ashfield, repairing the floor of the Greek Theatre in the Addison Road Community Centre and installing solar panels at Petersham Public School.

Quotes attributable to Jo Haylen MP, Member for Summer Hill

“Community groups and volunteers are the backbone of the inner west community. This is just one small way in which I am proud to support them in their important work.

“Community groups achieve the unimaginable on the smell of an oily rag. These grants will really put fuel in their tank and I can’t wait to see what they achieve.
