Transport for NSW is encouraging the local community and rail passengers to have their say on upgrades to Lewisham Station.

The work is part of the NSW Government’s Safe Accessible Transport program, which aims to make public transport safer, more convenient and accessible, especially for people with a disability, the elderly, and parents or carers with prams and wheelchairs.

More than $800.7 million over four years was allocated to the program to continue to develop and deliver station accessibility upgrade projects.

The project includes:

  • Four new lifts to improve access to platforms, the underpass and surrounding streets.
  • An accessible parking and kiss and ride space on Thomas Street, a kiss and ride space on Victoria Street and an accessible parking space on Hunter Street.
  • A new family accessible toilet, new station building, new hearing loops, platform regrading, wayfinding signage and tactile indicators.
  • Improvements to address flooding of the underpass.

The Review of Environmental Factors (REF) is on public display from 25 March until 22 April 2025 and community feedback is invited during this time. To view the REF or provide feedback visit: transport.nsw.gov.au/lewisham

Alternatively, commuters and members of the local community can talk to the project team at one of our community sessions. These are being held at Lewisham Station Thomas Street forecourt on 3 April from 4pm to 6pm or at Flour Mill Markets at Summer Hill on 6 April from 9am to 1pm.

Pending Planning Approval, construction is due to commence in 2026 and take around 18 to 24 months to complete.

Jo Haylen MP, Member for Summer Hill said:

“This is a much-needed and long-awaited upgrade for a station that floods frequently and is inaccessible for too many passengers.

I want to thank the community members who have fought hard to secure this upgrade and ensure our public transport is accessible.”

“The REF outlines the features of the concept design and assesses a range of potential environmental impacts expected during construction and operation.

“It is important that the community takes this opportunity to provide their feedback on this vital upgrade so that the design can best service the needs of our inner west community.”
