I'm thrilled to celebrate one of our own Inner West writers, Judith O'Connor, whose short story "Breath of Spring" has just been published in the NSW Seniors' Stories Volume 11. Judith started writing at just 15 on the train to school. She submitted a feature to a major newspaper in New Zealand and was immediately offered a journalism job! She went on to work for decades as a journalist and editor for major newspapers and magazines here and overseas and even headed up the Sydney Morning Herald's press gallery at NSW State Parliament. But Judith never stopped writing short stories. Many have won awards and been published in anthologies. Her collection "War Is Not Suitable for Children" was recently published by Ginninderra Press, receiving fantastic reviews. "Breath of Spring" honours a kind six-year-old boy from 1950s Sydney whose memory might otherwise be lost. This is what great writing does—it preserves our stories and our people. Judith also regularly gives back to our community, volunteering at Addison Road Food Pantry each week. Thank you Judith and congratulations on your short story being included in Seniors' Stories!
