Congratulations to Marrickville Public School for hosting a Japanese Parliamentary Delegation on Tuesday 15 September to learn how we support children with hearing loss in mainstream classrooms. The delegation, led by Ms Yoko Kamikawa MP and including Japan's former foreign affairs minister, visited to understand how Australian schools, families and agencies work together to achieve successful educational outcomes for deaf and hard of hearing students. They were keen to replicate this model back home in Japan. This visit was organised by parent Sally Coles in conjunction with The Shepherd Centre, and it was a wonderful example of how local schools can contribute to international education policy. Marrickville Public School does incredible work supporting students with hearing loss. Their teachers, support staff and families collaborate to ensure every deaf and hard of hearing student has access to quality education and can thrive in the mainstream classroom. The delegation's visit recognised the importance of this work and provided an opportunity to share Australian best practice globally. Thank you to Sally, The Shepherd Centre and the dedicated Marrickville Public Schol school staff for making this meaningful exchange possible.
