I wish to welcome Jannawi Family Centre to their new premises at the Flour Mills in Summer Hill, after serving the Inner West and South-Western Sydney communities from their Lakemba home for over 40 years. Jannawi Family Centre was established in 1978 to support children who have experienced trauma through violence, neglect, psychological or sexual assault, including because of family violence. I understand that the name Jannawi is a Darug word for "with you, with me" or "walking together". This certainly encapsulates the Jannawi Family Centre's approach to child and family support – one of respect and partnership. It is a sad fact that family and domestic violence is endemic in our society, which is why Jannawi Family Centre's expertise in working to support children who have experienced trauma through violence is needed so much. Providing support for organisations like Jannawi Family Centre, that are working hard to keep children safe, is a no-brainer. For a small organisation, Jannawi certainly stands tall in the child protection and family support sector and I am proud to welcome them to Summer Hill. Congratulations Chair Leanne Wallace, all the Board, Director Biljana Milosevic and the Jannawi team!
