I would like to celebrate an outstanding sporting achievement – 20‑year-old Harjas Singh's record-shattering 314 runs off just 141 balls for Western Suburbs against Sydney Cricket Club at Pratten Park on Saturday 4 October. This wasn't just a good innings. This was history being made. Harjas became the first-ever cricketer to score a triple century in limited-overs grade cricket, smashing an incredible 35 sixes – the most in an Australian grade cricket innings. He reached his fifty in 33 balls, his double century in just 102 balls, and scored 88 runs from his final 23 deliveries. His 314 places him alongside cricket legends Phil Jaques and Victor Trumper as only the third player to register a triple century in NSW Premier first-grade cricket. What makes this even more remarkable is that Western Suburbs has produced more Australian cricketers than any other club in the country, and Harjas has now set their highest-ever first-grade score. Born in Sydney to parents who migrated from Chandigarh in 2000, this Australia Under-19 World Cup star has shown the kind of talent that makes history. Congratulations Harjas!
