Good afternoon everyone,
I would like to begin by acknowledging the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we meet today, the Gadigal and Wangal people, and pay my respects to Elders past and present.
I extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples here today.
It is a real pleasure to join you this afternoon to celebrate National Volunteers Week and, most importantly, to celebrate all of you.
Dress for Success is an organisation that changes lives in a very real and practical way.
Each year, it supports more than 3,000 women across New South Wales to enter or re‑enter the workforce, helping them build confidence, overcome barriers, and take that crucial next step toward independence and opportunity.
I have had the privilege of visiting the Dress for Success showroom in Summer Hill on multiple occasions, and it is always incredibly powerful to see your work up close.
Seeing your processes firsthand, from the careful curation of outfits to the supportive, client‑centred approach, really brings home the impact of what you do.
You are giving agency and autonomy back to so many women through the ability to choose outfits and accessories that help them feel confident, professional, and ready for everyday life and work.
It is also fantastic to see the volunteers in action, sorting through massive amounts of clothing for initiatives like Fashion Frenzy.
The care, time, and effort that goes into preparing those racks is extraordinary, and it speaks volumes about the dedication and generosity of this volunteer community.
Through its styling services and career support programs, Dress for Success does more than prepare someone for a job interview.
It helps people believe in themselves again. And what makes that impact possible is you.
I would also like to acknowledge the incredible work of the Dress for Success leadership team, the Board led by Chair Amanda Webb, Board Director of Volunteering Phillipa Dobbin, CEO Melissa Collins, and the entire team behind this amazing organisation.
Because of all of you, lives are being changed. You are restoring confidence, opening doors, and helping people see their own potential again.
I also want to acknowledge Dress for Success’s inclusive approach, ensuring that all women, including transgender women and non‑binary individuals who feel comfortable in women’s spaces, are welcomed and supported.
That commitment to dignity and inclusion reflects the very best of our community.
So today is not just about saying thank you.
It is about recognising the real and lasting impact you are making every single day.
Thank you for your time, your generosity, and your commitment.
And congratulations to today’s award winners, and to all of you, on the incredible work you do.
