I thank the Australian Red Cross Lifeblood, which has changed blood and plasma donation rules to allow more sexually active gay and bisexual men to donate. The changes mean that people of all genders and orientations will be able to donate plasma with no waiting time, and most people who have had new or multiple partners will be able to donate, ending the practice of asking men if they have had relations with another man. Thanks to the many members of my community, groups like ACON, Rainbow Labor and Homoglobin, and other activists across the state who have campaigned for this change for many years. As a result, blood donation will be more inclusive and accessible. It is so important, given the high demand for blood donations every week across Australia. The excellent Lifeblood centre in Marrickville, led by Jaime Cottrell-Dormer, is open daily, and a pop-up donor centre will run in Ashfield from early September. I encourage everyone who is able to donate blood or plasma to do so through Red Cross Lifeblood.
