I would like to congratulate the fantastic team at Addison Road Community Centre on another wonderful Addi Road Writers festival. Building on the huge success that the festival was last year, organisers Sheila Ngoc Pham and Mark Mordue brought together a collection of authors, artists, songwriters, poets and other prolific creatives to focus on the theme of Inner Worlds, exploring struggle, transcendence and the tension between public and private selves. Panels, workshops and exhibitions on the day provided diverse perspectives on the innermost facets of the human experience, featuring artists from many different cultural and linguistic backgrounds and many different walks of life. These included pioneer indigenous rock band, No Fixed Address, and Damien Linnane, editor of the journal Paper Chained, which features artistic expressions of those impacted by incarceration. The festival on the 14th of May marked the third year of the Addi Road Writers Festival, and I know I am not the only one in the Inner West, and beyond, that hopes this festival of ideas is able to celebrate many more years in the heart of Marrickville.
