In a stunning turn of events in the NSW Parliament, the Government voted against a Labor motion calling for an end to the overseas manufacturing of transport infrastructure and to support Australian jobs in New South Wales.

Labor is urging the NSW Government to make replacement bus services for the Inner West Light Rail free so passengers do not have to pay for the inconvenience caused by the Government’s poor transport procurement policies.

The closure of the Inner West Light Rail line for at least 18 months and the decommissioning of every single tram on the line is clear evidence that the NSW Government’s transport procurement policies have comprehensively failed passengers across the state.

The NSW Government’s policy of buying cheap transport infrastructure from overseas has been thrown into disarray after Transport for NSW admitted that every single tram on the Inner West Light Rail that has undergone recent safety inspections had serious cracking defects.

The overseas built River Class ferries have been plagued by design flaws and safety issues since the NSW Government took possession of them.
