UP TO ONE THOUSAND trees have been tagged for removal along the Cooks River from Port Botany to Newington in Sydney’s inner west, including an iconic copse of fig trees at Strathfield.

Haberfield and inner west residents furious at the butchering of trees by Ausgrid contractors will meet this Saturday at a fiery public meeting. 

Jo Haylen, Member for Summer Hill, today welcomed the news that Optus will not install a telecommunications tower in Ashfield Park. At the same time, she called on the Baird Government to abandon plans for intrusive variable message signs (VMS) in front Ashfield Park for Westconnex.

These sites should be shut immediately until the investigation is completed and the community can be assured their safety is not at risk.

The Minister for Lands and Water today acknowledged that Juvenile Justice has not paid a cent in rent while using the Yasmar Estate in Haberfield, at the same time leaving the building and grounds to fall into disrepair. 

We must invest in and protect YASMAR and Callan Park as vital public lands. 

What is clear is that, whether Parliament chooses to ban greyhound racing or reform the industry, we can no longer turn a blind eye to the cruelty revealed in the media and in the McHugh report.

The Addison Road Community Centre is a vital part of the Inner West.

Haberfield residents and people across the inner west want the Minister to act now to stop this destruction by Ausgrid.
