NSW Labor has a plan to help level the playing field for first home buyers in the Inner West.

The Government has sold of $650 million worth of social housing in NSW over the past two years, including $5.93 million of assets flogged off in the Inner West.

Jo Haylen, Member for Summer Hill, today raised concerns about the Greater Sydney Commission’s plans for the inner west.

The Commission released its draft plans for Sydney earlier today, indicating rapid increases in density across the South, West and Inner West of Sydney, with few details on community infrastructure including schools and open spaces.

The plans are open for community feedback until March 2017. 

It is clear that where this Government is concerned, innovation extends only so far as selling off something, and there is absolutely no limit to what it will privatise. Now the Government has put a price tag on the very system which underpins the ownership of our land.

Renters deserve to feel secure in their housing and I believe it is time for us to take a hard look at what we can do in this place to make that a reality.

Jo Haylen has called on the NSW Government to review boarding house regulations to protect the rights of residents. 

Jo Haylen, the member for Summer Hill, has congratulated the Inner West Youth Homelessness Service on achieving its first anniversary. 

This bill will put an end to the abuse of sunset clauses by unscrupulous developers and it will help buyers and homeowners; but the Government can and must go further to change the culture that sacrifices our communities for greed and profit.

If the Government wants to pit developers against residents in the fight for affordable housing, I will stand with the elderly, families and the most vulnerable in our community.
