The Minns Labor Government is fast-tracking support to deliver more than 100 new beds for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Twelve new projects will receive funding through the $100 million Homelessness Innovation Fund (HIF), a game-changing program that supports unconventional, cost-effective responses to homelessness.

For example, under the new round of funding, more women and children urgently needing a roof over their heads will have a place to call home in Blacktown, with two new prefabricated cottages combined with wrap around mental health, parenting and tenancy support.

And in Wollongong, eight brand new homes will support individuals and families needing stable accommodation to get back on track.

This latest round of grants builds on the success of the HIF, which has already delivered more than 800 beds to date through almost $45 million in grants.

The initiative is backing practical, community-led solutions to expand the availability of crisis and transitional accommodation that provide practical help to people sleeping rough or at risk of homelessness.

Together with trusted partners, the NSW Government is delivering faster, more stable support to ensure experiences of homelessness are rare, brief and not repeated.

Under the Minns Labor Government, for the first time, NSW has a whole-of-government approach to end homelessness.

The NSW Homelessness Strategy 2025-2035 sets out the plan to make homelessness rare, brief and non-recurring, backed by a record-breaking $6.6 billion investment in housing and homelessness.

Minister for Housing and Homelessness Rose Jackson said:

“For too long, homelessness services and public housing were stretched to breaking point while housing costs skyrocketed. We’re working to turn that around.

“This investment backs the organisations and frontline workers doing the hard work every single day to support people in crisis and help them rebuild their lives.

“We know there’s no single solution to homelessness, which is why we’re investing in practical, community-led ideas that deliver real results and help people find stability sooner.

“We’re delivering homes faster and getting vulnerable people out of hotels and motels into safe, secure housing where they belong – this is a powerful example of what targeted investment can achieve.”
