In the wake of the Matilda's stunning performance in the World Cup, it is important to acknowledge and thank the local clubs that form the backbone of football in Australia.

In the wake of the Matilda's stunning performance in the World Cup, it is important to acknowledge and thank the local clubs that form the backbone of football in Australia. One such club in my Summer Hill electorate is Marrickville FC, the Red Devils. Established in 1946 the club boasts over two thousand registered members, with teams competing in the Canterbury and District Soccer Football Association. Marrickville FC is taking big steps to encourage people of all genders, ages and abilities to get involved with the world game, offering programs for women aged 16 and up, shorter form walking only competitions, and an all-abilities team for kids who might struggle in other teams. It is through inclusion, compassion, and reinforcement that we can build up our local sporting teams, and Marrickville FC is certainly leading the field in that regard. It is only through the efforts of many dedicated people that sporting clubs can be successful. I want to acknowledge the efforts of Club President Mr Bill Drossos and Managing Director Miss Georgie Kokokiris, all the leadership team and the many committed volunteers who are the heart of the club. Marrickville FC truly is more than a club; it's a football family.
