Councillor Jo Haylen welcomed news Labor’s resolution for an Order of Papers regarding plans for Parramatta Road successfully passed the Legislative Council earlier this week.

The Order for Papers, moved by Labor, was supported by all three minor parties, and opposed by the Government.

Councillor Haylen said she had been approached by a number of residents concerned by the Baird Government’s attempt to keep Urban Growth NSW’s renewal plan for Parramatta Road under wraps.

“People are rightfully outraged by the Baird Government’s secrecy,” Clr Haylen said.

“We were told the documents would be released this year, but now the Liberals have said they are keeping their plans under lock and key until after the state election next year!" Clr Haylen said.

We know they are hiding their plans for nearly 50 000 high rise apartments along Parramatta Rd. One can only assume they are more interested in profits for developers that any real renewal or positive outcome for our communities,” Clr Haylen said.

Clr Haylen said that while Parramatta Road is a place for density, it had to be density done well.

“As Mayor of Marrickville I sought to engage meaningfully about how we can revitalise Parramatta Road.

“Labor wants to see guarantees around design excellence and there must be adequate provision of essential community infrastructure, for parks and playgrounds, and new childcare centres and schools,” Clr Haylen said.
